LAJES DESALINATION WATER TREATMENT PLANT

GEA designed and provided a Desalination Membrane Water Treatment System for the US Air Force Lajes Field Water Treatment Plant, located in the Azores. The Membrane System capacity is 1.1 MGD (4.2 million m³/day) and consists of twenty (20) 8-inch diameter pressure vessels arranged with 14 pressure vessels in the first pass followed by six pressure vessels in the second pass. There are 120 8-inch diameter by 40-inch long membranes.

GEA selected Dow Filmtec Membranes, Model No. NF90-400, which provide an extended surface area of 400 ft2 each.  The membranes treat brackish water and provide potable, low TDS drinking water for the Air Base.
